The treasurer shouldn’t be a debt collector.

Every month the same routine: a reminder in the group chat, a few transfers with no name on them, a list of who is behind, and awkward messages to friends about money.

With MsgOrb, members pay once and are charged automatically after that. Reminders go to the people who haven’t signed up, receipts go to the people who have, and you see who is active and whose card failed on one page.

How dues on WhatsApp work

Set it up once. Renewals happen on their own, and every reminder and receipt goes out on WhatsApp.

  1. Step 1

    Create a dues plan

Name it, set the amount and choose monthly or yearly. Pick the WhatsApp group it belongs to, or create a new one.

  2. Step 2

    Send to group

Every member of the group gets their own pay link on WhatsApp, with their name and number already filled in.

  3. Step 3

    Members pay once

They pay the first month or year on a secure Stripe page. Their card is saved on your Stripe account.

  4. Step 4

    Renewals are automatic

The card is charged every month or year after that, and a receipt arrives on WhatsApp each time.

What members see in WhatsApp, step by step

Joining takes a member about two minutes on their phone, once. After that, nothing to remember.

  1. 1

    A personal link on WhatsApp

Each member gets their own pay link in their chat with your organization, with their name and number already filled in.

  2. 2

    One short sign-up page

They see the plan, the amount, how often it is charged and the total with the booking fee.

  3. 3

    Pay once on Stripe

By card on Stripe’s secure checkout page. No account, no app, no password to remember.

  4. 4

    Receipt in WhatsApp

A receipt lands in the same chat after the first payment and after every renewal.

  5. 5

    In control, always

Their own member page shows what they pay and lets them stop. A failed card gets a link to update it.

Every message comes from your organization’s own WhatsApp Business number, and replies land in your MsgOrb inbox. If the person messaged you in the last 24 hours it goes as a free reply; otherwise it goes as a Meta-approved message, which you add in one click. Anyone who replied STOP is never messaged.

Why collect membership dues on WhatsApp?

Members pay when asking is easy, private and in the app they open every day.

The app members already check

Dues requests in WhatsApp get seen. An email about dues can sit unopened among newsletters and promotions.

Private, not in the group

Each member gets their own link in their own chat. Nobody is called out in front of the club.

Questions come straight back

Members reply to the message, and the treasurer answers from the MsgOrb inbox.

Official and from your number

Sent through the official WhatsApp Business Platform from your organization’s own number. MsgOrb is a Verified Meta Tech Provider.

Your money

Your Stripe account. Your payouts.

Every member’s subscription, charge and payout lives in your own Stripe dashboard. MsgOrb sends the links, reminders and receipts on WhatsApp.

Paid straight to you

Dues are a subscription on your own Stripe account, and Stripe pays out to your bank. MsgOrb never holds your money.

Booking fee paid by members

2% of each payment plus $0.50, added on top. Members see the amount, the fee and the total before they pay.

Stripe’s fee from your payout

Stripe’s card processing fee comes out of your payout, as with any Stripe payment.

Failed renewals handled

If a renewal fails, the member is marked Payment failed and gets a WhatsApp link to update their card.

Refunds in Stripe

Refund a member from your Stripe dashboard, where every charge and payout is listed.

Payers join your group

Someone new who pays is added to the plan’s WhatsApp group, so your announcements reach them too.

What members pay

The booking fee is 2% of each payment plus $0.50, added on top. You set the dues and receive all of it, less Stripe’s card processing fee.

PlanDuesBooking feeMember pays
Monthly club dues$20.00 a month$0.90$20.90 a month
Monthly association dues$35.00 a month$1.20$36.20 a month
Yearly membership$120.00 a year$2.90$122.90 a year

Dues are in your Stripe account’s currency. Outside the US, the fixed part of the fee is about $0.50 in your currency.

Monthly or yearly dues?

Both are charged automatically. The right one depends on how your group meets and how members think about the cost.

Monthly

Clubs that meet every week: running clubs, choirs, sports teams, fellowships.

  • Small amounts are an easy yes
  • New members can join any time
  • One booking fee per month

$20 a month · member pays $20.90

Yearly

Associations, alumni groups and chapters that renew once a year.

  • One payment, one receipt a year
  • Fewer card failures
  • Lower total booking fee

$120 a year · member pays $122.90

On $20 a month, members pay $10.80 in booking fees over a year; on $120 a year they pay $2.90. A plan with paying members can’t switch between the two, so choose before you send it.

Moving members from transfers to automatic dues

  1. Announce it first. Tell members in your next meeting or group message what is changing and why: no more reminders, a receipt every month.
  2. Pick a start month. Send the links a week before dues are next due, so nobody pays twice.
  3. Press Send to group. Everyone gets their own link. Two reminders follow for those who haven’t joined.
  4. Talk to the last few in person. After the 7-day reminder, MsgOrb stops. A friendly word at the next meeting does the rest.

Announcement you can post in your group

🏃 From November, club dues ($20 a month) will be collected automatically. No more reminders or transfers! You’ll each get a personal link on WhatsApp this week. Pay once by card, and a receipt arrives in WhatsApp every month. You can stop any time from your member page.

Fair to members, easy on you

Members always know what they pay and can manage it themselves. You only step in when you want to.

  • Two reminders, then quiet

Members who haven’t signed up get a WhatsApp reminder 3 days and 7 days after you send the link. Nothing after that.

  • Members can stop any time

From their own member page. Charges end after the month or year they have already paid for.

  • STOP means stop

Anyone who replied STOP to your WhatsApp number is never sent a pay link or reminder.

Frequently asked questions

Step-by-step help is in the membership dues guide.

Does MsgOrb hold the dues?

No. Each member’s dues are a subscription on your own Stripe account, so the money is yours from the start and Stripe pays it out to your bank. MsgOrb only receives its booking fee, which the member pays on top.

How often are members charged?

Every month or every year, whichever the plan is set to. The first payment is made when the member signs up, and the card is charged automatically on the same day each month or year after that.

What does a member pay?

The dues plus a booking fee of 2% of the dues and $0.50, on every payment. On $20 monthly dues the member pays $20.90 a month.

What happens when a card fails?

The member is marked Payment failed on your plan’s page and gets a WhatsApp message with a link to update their card. Once they do, the open dues are paid with the new card.

Do you remind members who haven’t paid?

Yes. After you press Send to group, members who haven’t signed up get a WhatsApp reminder 3 days later and again 7 days later, then nothing more. People who replied STOP are never messaged.

How does a member stop paying?

From their own member page, or you can stop them from the plan’s page. Charges end after the period they have already paid for.

Can I change the amount later?

Yes. A new amount applies to new members; existing members keep the amount they signed up for. A plan that already has paying members can’t switch between monthly and yearly, so create a new plan for that.

Which WhatsApp number do the messages come from?

Your organization’s own WhatsApp Business number, connected to MsgOrb through Meta’s official sign-up. Members see your name, and their replies come to your MsgOrb inbox.

What do the WhatsApp messages cost?

Replies within 24 hours of someone messaging you are free. Other dues messages are Meta-approved Utility messages, which Meta bills to your own WhatsApp Business Account at its published rates. MsgOrb adds no charge per message.

What if a member isn’t on WhatsApp?

They can still join and pay from the plan’s sign-up link or QR code, and their card is still charged automatically. Receipts and notices are sent on WhatsApp, so they won’t receive those.

Do members need an account or an app?

No. They open their personal link, check the amount and pay by card on Stripe’s secure checkout page. Receipts and reminders arrive in WhatsApp.

What day are members charged?

On the same day each month or year as their first payment. A member who joins on March 8 is charged on the 8th of each month, or every March 8 on a yearly plan.

Can I have different rates, like student or family dues?

Yes. Create a dues plan for each rate, for example Individual $20 a month and Family $35 a month, then send each plan to its own WhatsApp group, or share each plan’s sign-up link so members choose the right one.

Which countries can use Membership Dues?

Organizations in the countries Stripe supports for connected accounts, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, most of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Dues are in your Stripe account’s currency.

Can churches collect tithes or offerings this way?

No. Membership dues are for a membership people sign up for. Tithes, offerings and donations need giving receipts and follow different WhatsApp rules, so they are not part of this feature.

Collecting a one-off fee for a class or camp, maybe in parts? See Program Fees.
