Selling tickets

Connect your Stripe account, set a price per person, and let guests pay by card when they RSVP.

Any event can be paid. Guests choose how many tickets they want on your RSVP page, pay by card on Stripe's secure checkout page, and get their entry pass on WhatsApp as soon as Stripe confirms the payment. The money goes straight to your own Stripe account: MsgOrb never holds it.

Selling tickets lives on the Tickets page in the sidebar, and only the workspace owner can connect Stripe or set prices.

1. Connect your Stripe account

  1. 1Open Tickets.
  2. 2Under Your Stripe account, choose the country your organization is in. This can't be changed later, because Stripe fixes an account's country.
  3. 3Click Connect Stripe. Stripe's own sign-up pages open. If you already have a Stripe login, use the same email and Stripe adds a new account to it.
  4. 4Fill in your details and bank account on Stripe, and submit. Stripe brings you back to the Tickets page.

Stripe checks your details before card payments are switched on. This often takes a few minutes, sometimes longer if Stripe asks for a document. Click Check again to update the status. When it says Connected, you can sell tickets. Open Stripe dashboard takes you to your payments, payouts and refunds.

Your country isn't in the list? Paid tickets aren't available there yet. Free RSVPs keep working as usual.

2. Make an event paid

  1. 1Create the event on RSVP & Check-in as usual. See Setting up RSVPs and entry passes.
  2. 2On Tickets, find the event and click Sell tickets.
  3. 3Choose Paid, type the price per person and click Save.

The price is in your Stripe account's currency. The lowest price is US$1.00 (or about the same in your currency). Under the price, MsgOrb shows exactly what guests will pay and what you receive.

An event is either free or paid. An event that already has free RSVPs can't become paid, and an event with paid tickets can't become free. Create a new event for paid tickets.

3. What guests see and pay

Guests open your RSVP link, type their name and WhatsApp number, and choose How many tickets? The page shows the ticket price, the booking fee and the total, then Continue to payment opens Stripe's checkout.

Booking fee (MsgOrb)The guest, on top of the price2% of the price + US$0.50 per ticket (about US$0.50 in other currencies)

For example, a $10 ticket costs the guest $10.70, and you receive $10 less Stripe's processing fee.

When Stripe confirms the payment, the guest gets one entry pass for the whole booking, on WhatsApp and on screen. It works at the door exactly like a free RSVP's pass. An unpaid booking is held for 2 hours and then released. Nothing counts toward your headcount until it is paid.

Ticket buyers are not added to your contacts, so they never count toward your plan's member limit.

4. Following your sales

The Tickets page lists every event with its Price, tickets Sold and Ticket sales. The event's own page on RSVP & Check-in shows a short summary, and the guest list shows who has paid and arrived.

Refunds

Refunds are made in your Stripe dashboard: open the payment and click Refund.

  • A full refund gives the guest back everything they paid, stops their entry pass, and takes them off the headcount.
  • A partial refund leaves their tickets valid.
  • MsgOrb's booking fee is not returned to you.
  • If a guest accidentally pays twice for the same booking, the second payment is refunded automatically, booking fee included.

Paid guests can't change their tickets from their pass. If a guest replies NO to a follow-up, you are told, but their ticket stays valid until you refund it.

Things to know

  • An upcoming event with paid tickets can't be deleted, nor its group deleted or its RSVP page switched off, until the tickets are refunded or the event has taken place.
  • Payouts, disputes and receipts are handled by Stripe in your Stripe dashboard. Your public business name and the name on guests' card statements are set there too, under Settings → Public details.
